A MESSAGE FROM THE NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE

The ESEA Negotiations Committee and the ESEA Executive Board would like to say "Thank You" for your patience while we continue to finalize the Negotiated Agreement between the Clark County School District and ESEA. Remember that at the conclusion of bargaining all benefits, including salary increases, will be presented to the membership at the General Membership meeting for ratification. When the membership ratifies the changes, all 2007-2008 benefits, including salary increases, will be retroactive from July 1, 2007.

RECLASSIFICATION UPDATE

With over 11,000 employees at over 400 worksites, classification is a critically important issue because it helps decide what employees are paid.

Over the years, ESEA has been working to improve salary and benefits, and we are happy to report that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by ESEA and the Clark County School District, adding $1.5 million to help stabilize salary schedules. In that MOU, ESEA and the District have agreed that:

1. Effective July 1, 2006, employees on G1 or H1 as of April 1, 2006, will be moved to Step G2 and H2.

2. Employees advancing to a longevity step (G, H, or I) after April 1, 2006, will be placed on the whole step schedule -- no more half steps. Please note that there may be occasions where advancement to the whole step rather than the half step will result in an affected employee receiving a 2.5 percent increase instead of a 5 percent increase.

3. The maximum cap applied during the reclassification study will be removed effective June 30, 2006. All employees affected by the cap will be placed on their appropriate, earned longevity step effective July 1, 2006.

The classification now provides more fairness when it comes to how support employees are paid.

If you have any questions or need additional information as to how the MOU affects you, please call ESEA at (702) 794-2537.
