Education Makes New Congress's Scorecard

Scorecard

Education ranked high on the 110th Congress’s list of priorities for the first 100 hours as legislators came together to make higher education more affordable. The College Student Relief Act of 2007 will cut the interest rate on subsidized federal student loans in half. This bipartisan cooperation on education issues is a promising sign. Help the Association support candidates who will continue to advocate for positive public education agendas by contributing to the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education in 2007.

ESEA’s No Child Left Behind Turns Five

NCLB

What a difference five years makes. When the No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law in January 2002, the acclaim was almost universal. From the start, NEA offered widespread support for NCLB’s goals, but questioned the law’s specific strategies. As Congress prepares to reauthorize ESEA/NCLB this year, NEA has collected eyewitness accounts from hundreds of educators who express concerns about the law’s impact on their classrooms and schools. The NEA Foundation Salutes Excellence in Education

Foundation Salutes Excellence

On February 8, The NEA Foundation will celebrate all those who work in and support America's public schools, colleges, and universities at its 12th Annual Salute to Excellence in Education Gala. The gala highlights the Foundation’s efforts to encourage education innovation through awards that recognize and reward the excellence demonstrated by NEA members nationwide. All NEA members, including teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff, are eligible for the awards. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 recipients.
