"This will be an exciting and
special year for NEA as we mark our 150th anniversary! Our history is
paved with many successes and struggles in pursuit of quality public
education. With this impressive milestone, we have much to celebrate and
much to accomplish. Team NEA, we are 3.2 million members across the
nation, woven together by our common goal: great public schools for every
child. Together, let’s begin the journey toward the next 150 years
of excellence!"

Education Makes
New Congress's Scorecard

Education ranked
high on the 110th Congress’s list of priorities for the first 100
hours as legislators came together to make
higher education more affordable. The College Student Relief Act of 2007
will cut the interest rate on subsidized federal student loans in half.
This bipartisan cooperation on education issues is a promising sign. Help
the Association support candidates who will continue to advocate for
positive public education agendas by contributing to the NEA Fund for
Children and Public Education in 2007.

ESEA’s No Child Left
Behind Turns Five

What a difference
five years makes. When the No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law
in January 2002, the acclaim was almost universal. From the start, NEA
offered widespread support for NCLB’s goals, but questioned the
law’s specific strategies. As Congress prepares to reauthorize
ESEA/NCLB this year, NEA has collected eyewitness
accounts from hundreds of educators who express concerns about the
law’s impact on their classrooms and schools. To learn more, click here.
